Technology Changes; Prints Don’t

One of the last things you want to hear after photographing a gorgeous family session in the bosque is the voice of your studio manager saying, “We have a problem–we have no internet and the server is down.”

That is exactly the news I received on my way back to the studio from this morning’s session. It wouldn’t stop us from shooting, thank goodness, but with the server down, our screening appointments would have to be rescheduled, and all production work would come to a screeching halt.

And as we ran around the studio trying to fix things on our end and ultimately having to call in our IT team, it was not lost on me that the photographs on the wall weren’t phased in the least. Same goes for the albums. I think I might have even heard them chuckle.

They hang on the wall, without a care in the world about servers or internet or hard drives or the cloud. They don’t even care if the electricity goes out. They are cherished reminders that technology changes, but prints don’t.

Because really, it shouldn’t require electricity to see a photo of someone you love.
