HOPE COMES ALIVE

We love Albuquerque-the mountains, the sunsets, the food, and especially the People. We have been blessed in this little corner of the world and feel very strongly about giving back to the community which has given so much to us. So, when Maryellen from the CDD Autism Center at UNM called about joining them in a project, we were thrilled to be able to help. As we learned via their website:

ALBUQUERQUE – A new Autism Center is coming to New Mexico. The Center for Development and Disability (CDD) will launch the “Hope Comes Alive” campaign to bring a Center of Excellence to New Mexico to treat, diagnose, and serve New Mexican families living with Autism. “This is the right time for the CDD Autism Center and New Mexico needs this for many reasons,” said Dr. Cate McClain, director of CDD. “The need is critical. Families are waiting. We now have the opportunity to provide the kind of Autism Center we deserve in this state.”

Autism affects one in every 150 children in the U.S. and it is the fastest growing developmental disability. New Mexico needs expanded services, more families served, a knowledgeable workforce and a state-of-the-art treatment, diagnostic and training facility. CDD programs support individuals with Autism through clinical service, training, research, diagnosis and referral.

We photographed four bright, beautiful children whose images will be on display at the Mayor’s Ball this evening, as the CDD Autism Center at UNM is one of the evening’s benefactors. The faces and stories of these children help cement the reality of autism: the struggles, the joys, and the need to support those making a difference in the lives of Albuquerque children.

Hope, on its own, accomplishes nothing. But, when HOPE COMES ALIVE amazing things happen.
